Poor Poor Baby

My poor baby has a horrible rash in his diaper region. Its so bad that we had to take him to the hospital today. He went to bed fine and woke up red, swollen and with discharge. It looked awful. He has an infection and needs antibiotics for 10 days! Apparently microabrasions in the diaper area are breeding grounds for infection. The doctor told us it is very common but still- I could not feel more awful for him. I think this may be affecting me more than him though. I have cried about 18 times today. Aside from a few hours of obvious pain he is frolicking around like his normal self. Ohhh the pain of motherhood.

Needless to say, I will NOT be posting a picture of my child's genitals. Even I have my limits.

poor guy.

my son apparently has mega sensitive skin so we're constantly battling a rash which occassionally leads to staph infection. this past summer the rash was worsened by the heat and everytime we changed a diaper he started crying. so many times he got so worked up he puked. we switched to chlorine free diapers/wipes (we were already using everything else hypo-allergenic) and that seems to really have helped his diaper area issues...

but, yea, that butt area can be challenging. i hope your sweetie pie gets to feeling/looking better ASAP!!!

my two diaper rash remedies are:

-exposure to air (this is kind of asking for sprayage with boys though!)

-corn starch - it REALLY works and very quickly because it absorbs all the moisture especially good if they are teething and having those acidic type of poos BUT corn starch can contribute to yeast infections so should not be used on girls

Cornstarch worked for both of my kids. I tried several kinds of the fancy creams but they all made it worse. I didn't know that about yeast infections though. Thankfully we never had that problem.
