Mama! ------------------ Poo Poo!

This is a phrase that I've gotten used to hearing recently. I haven't thought much of it until tonight. I was reading a favourite blog and noticed a lot of comments about potty training, from about 1 onward. Cade's almost 18 months. He tells me about his poop, or he yells about his poop. Does this mean it's time to introduce the potty? I get the sense that I've been missing something. My mom always told me that she was just relieved that my brother didn't go to kindergarten in diapers, because apparently he was excessively hard to potty train, while I on the other hand went and sat on a potty at 12 months and never looked back. Seriously, I'm not making this up! So I had just figured that we'd start closer to three but now I think I've been underestimating baby C's desire not to wear shit on his ass. So off we go, to attempt potty training.

Good Luck! We are going to be starting soon. Hailey's peed once and sits on it all the time.

I put a little potty in our bathroom when she was about 18 months just so she wasn't scared of it.

She too is showing signs of being ready. I just wanted to wait until after holiday's.

Nothing like a newly trained kids in a car for 11 hours....so....i guess since we're home. It's time!

Let me know how it goes? any ideas what you'll use for a reward?

we gave tyler a potty when he was about 18months. showed him how it worked, but didnt expect/force anything. it sat in the bathroom next to the big potty. after a bout a month he started wanting to sit on it (with his diaper on) everytime a parent went to the potty. about two months ago, i started putting him on it a few times a day with out his diaper and informed him that big boys peep in the potty. within the last month he started peeing in the potty everytime he sits on it and even tells us that he needs to use the potty about 50% of the time he urinates. pooping is another issue entirely for us though. tyler knows about pooping and that the potty is useful for that too. he even sits on the potty and grunt and farts. last night we had our 1st potty turd. i'm hoping for more. i hear that the pooping in the potty is hard for boys to master.

in short, buy cade a potty, show it to him, tell him about it and see where it goes. never hurts to try even if some people call it "early".

Every kid is different. Julia was three and a half before she was potty trained, but we took a sort of no pressure approach. Once she started showing some signs that she was ready, we got the potty out. The potty was there, we reminded her of it, and when she was ready, she used it.

I think talking about poo poo is definitely a sign that he might be ready. It can't hurt to try!
